As an indie musician, it is easy to look at a small Twitter follower count and get discouraged. Obviously, Twitter is not the holy grail of fans, but there is a big opportunity for musicians to gain more followers. A comany called Music WithMe just released data that suggests 85% of fans do NOT follow their favorite artists on Twitter–even if they DO share their music! To heavy Twitter users, this might seem very strange, but there are a few reaons this could be the case.
Perhaps fans only follow a certain type of Twitter account. Maybe they just don’t like the particular tweet of their artist, even though they like the music. I’m sure we all have a musician whose music we enjoy, but we wouldn’t want to be friends with them.
Take this opportunity to realize the potential of your fanbase and engage with your followers, fans, and potential fans on Twitter!
