Link shortening and tracking service, Bit.ly, completed a study about the best times to post on social media. The results are posted below. Keep in mind, though, that there are many factors that go into engagement–there is no replacement for looking at your own data and determining the type and time of posting that works best for your online brand.
DO post in the afternoon at the beginning of the week if you’d like higher click-through rates.
DON’T post after 8pm, and at any point after 3pm on Friday through the weekend. You won’t get many people clicking through to your content.
DO post your links on Wednesdays at 3pm (and any weekday between 1pm and 4pm.
DON’T post your links between 8pm and 8am, and, again, not on the weekends.
If you need to post in the evening, you’ll have much better luck of having your links clicked at 7pm as opposed to 8pm.
In case you were thinking that all social networks had similar usage, you were wrong.
DO wait until after 7pm to post to Tumblr during the week.
DO post on Friday nights (and, after that, Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday between 7pm and 10pm).
DON’T post during the day on weekdays.
